International Student Scholarship
Once admitted to �й�Pվ as an F-1 undergraduate student, there is an opportunity to apply for the International Student Scholarship. This scholarship encourages students to get involved in campus life and the local community. The award covers approximately $3500* of tuition expenses per semester. All �й�Pվ international students receive the application link by email after being issued the I-20 Certificate of Eligibility.
Eligibility Requirements

Be a new or continuing F-1 international student at �й�Pվ

Submit the application before the annual deadlines

Fall Enrollment - July 1

Spring Enrollment – November 1

Scholarship Requirements

Maintain a 2.5 GPA

Acquire 10 or more involvement credits each semester by participating in school activities, organizations, clubs, or Center for Global Engagement sponsored events

Students who maintain the above requirements may receive the scholarship for up to 10 semesters. Questions concerning this scholarship may be sent to global@ung.edu.

*Based on a Bachelor’s degree level student on the Dahlonega campus enrolled in 15 credit hours. Amounts may vary.

Global Ambassador Scholarship
This annually awarded scholarship allows students the opportunity to gain valuable experience in an international office environment at �й�Pվ’s Center for Global Engagement. The award amount is a full out-of-state tuition waiver for the fall and spring semester of the academic year.

The Global Ambassador Scholarship application opens in May of each year.
Eligibility Requirements
Only students who are current recipients of the International Student Scholarship and who meet the following criteria may apply.

Must have completed at least two semesters at �й�Pվ

Must be maintaining good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5 or higher

Must have completed the student involvement credit requirements by achieving at least 10 credits per semester

The Global Ambassador Scholarship is extremely competitive, and application requirements include the submission of a resume and an in-person interview with CGE staff. For more details or questions about the process, contact global@ung.edu.

Statement on concerns about textbook

Recently, questions have been raised about a passage in a course textbook. After fully reviewing the concern, we want to be clear: the reference in question was not describing Christians or Christianity. The passage refers to an extremist group that misuses Christian symbols to promote hate.

In today’s world, misunderstandings can travel quickly. But our foundation at the University of North Georgia remains steady. We respect people of all beliefs. We reject hate. And we are committed to preparing students to think critically, lead with integrity, and serve in communities across our state, nation, and world.

Education is not about avoiding difficult words or ideas — it is about teaching students to navigate them with context, discernment, and respect. The world is complex, and we are developing students to lead in both these times and what lies ahead. That is what this course, and this university, are about.

We also recognize that learning and scholarship sometimes touch on sensitive, complex, or controversial ideas. That is not a weakness of higher education — it is its strength. Our responsibility is to provide the context, freedom, and support that allow both students and faculty to engage with these ideas thoughtfully. Academic freedom allows us to remain true to our values: protecting freedoms, honoring all beliefs, rejecting hate in every form, and preparing leaders who can meet a complex world with courage and integrity.

While one line in a textbook can get lost in translation, our values have never wavered. For 152 years, the University of North Georgia remains committed to building leaders through debate, dialogue, and learning. That is who we are. And that is what we will continue to do.
